Speaker Events:

• Session 1: Friday, February 7 • 7:00 PM – Shabbat Service: Rabbi Salkin will provide the D'var Torah: Rebooting Liberal Judaism. This will be offered in person in the CBE Sanctuary and via Zoom (Usual Services Zoom)
• Session 2: Saturday, February 8 • 9:30 AM– Shabbat Service followed by Torah Study with Rabbi Salkin (about 10:30 AM):  Rabbi Salkin will lead the Torah Study: Parsh Beshalach. A Wall on the Left and a Wall on the Right: Beiong Jewish in Today's America. This will be offered in person in the CBE Sanctuary and via Zoom (Usual Services Zoom)
• Session 3: Sunday, February 9 • 9:00 AM – Brotherhood Breakfast: Rabbi Salkin will speak about 9:30 AM: A Complete Unknown: How Jewish is Bob Dylan?    (There is no cost for Brotherhood members. Non-Brotherhood members are asked to pay $10 for the breakfast, payable at the door.)

About the Speaker:

Rabbi Jeffrey Salkin is considered one of the most prolific and erudite Jewish thought leaders in America today.

He is the author of eleven books, which have inspired vigorous national conversations on such subjects as American Jewish identity, Israel, gender, and Jewish culture, and he has written three Torah commentaries. His most notable (and award winning) book, Putting God on the Guest List, helped many parents navigate B’nai Mitzvah.

He is a contributing editor at the Religion News Service, where he writes a regular column (and podcast) Martini Judaism – for those who want to be shaken and stirred, which has won several awards. His essays have appeared in numerous periodicals, including The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Commentary, Forward, JTA, Tablet, Moment, The Jewish Week and Readers Digest. He is the co-founder of Wisdom Without Walls, an online salon for Jewish Ideas. https://wisdomwithoutwalls.org/

A native of New York, Rabbi Salkin was ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York in 1981. Rabbi Salkin has served on the boards of many national and local Jewish organizations and has been an activist for Israel and Zionism.

His latest book is Tikkun Ha’Am: Repairing Our People – Israel and the Crisis of Liberal Judaism. Rabbi David Wolpe of Los Angeles has said: “This book shows why Rabbi Jeffrey Salkin is among the wisest observers of our society and our souls — a Rabbi who writes with humor, depth and clarity.”

Rabbi Salkin currently lives in Montclair, New Jersey, and devotes his time to writing, biking, his friends and family, and consuming vast quantities of coffee.
