Witness to Injustice:

Experts and eye witnesses share their knowledge and experiences at the southern border and the humanitarian impact of the US policies.

Our panel includes:

Dr. Avi Chomsky is Professor of History and Coordinator of Latin American, Latino and Caribbean Studies at Salem State University. She is a prolific author. Her books include They Take Our Jobs! And Twenty Other Myths about Immigration, and Undocumented: How Immigration Became Illegal. She traces her interest in labor history, migrant workers, and immigration back to her work with the United Farm Workers in 1976-77.

Rabbi Mike Rothbaum is rabbi of CBE. In the summer of 2018, after the reports of family separation, he joined Bend The Arc, T’ruah, and Mijente at the San Diego border to protest those policies. In December 2018, he traveled to the Mexico border with the Kino Border Initiative, an organization with a vision of just, human, workable migration between the U.S. and Mexico. He is a 2018-2019 Global Justice Fellow with American Jewish World Service and as part of that program recently toured Guatemala.

Michaela Caplan is a CBE congregant and street medic. She spent her winter break from Dartmouth College setting up a camp for asylum seekers at the Texas border and serving as a medic.

Philip Czachorowski joined the United Church of Christ's Faithful Witness at the US/Mexican Border in August 2018 for five days of service and study. They met migrant families, walked the desert, visited immigration court, and witnessed the humanitarian work on both sides of the border to sustain individuals and families desperate for a better, safer life.
