As we approach Labor Day weekend, CBE will join congregations across the country from Miami, FL to Palm Spring, CA in honoring workers and lifting up worker struggles. The service is part of the annual Labor in the Pulpits/on the Bimah/in the Minbar program hosted by the AFL-CIO. 

Our speakers, from the New England Jewish Labor Committee, will be:

Amy Mazur

Employer Engagement Volunteer, Massachusetts Coalition of Domestic Workers
Amy became involved in the domestic worker initiative with the New England Jewish Labor Committee and also served on the National Steering Committee of Hand in Hand, a network of employers of nannies, house cleaners and home attendants working for dignified and respectful working conditions that benefit the employer and worker alike. 

As a career counselor who supports individuals as they seek meaningful and dignified work, as a Jewish woman who wants to live my values, as a community member concerned about the treatment of workers around me, and as a domestic employer, Amy is committed to educating domestic employers like me about the rights of domestic workers - workers we engage with every day in our homes.

Rachel Scarpino

Organizer, Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action  
Rachel's organizing background includes an initiative to add gender-neutral housing options at Hofstra University, where she received her Bachelor's degree, She led the university’s Geographical Honor Society chapter in collecting and sending textbooks to several countries in sub-Saharan Africa, and has previous experience supporting international public health programs at John Snow, Inc. and local early education programs with United Way.

Rachel's research interests predominantly fall under the umbrella of systemic solutions to social barriers, especially regarding access to quality healthcare and education. In her free time, she can usually be found reading, playing with her dog, or sharing geography-related fun facts.
