MIT’s Haystack Observatory high-powered staff and instruments are at the forefront of major advances fields like astronomy, space weather, geodesy, and space technology. One recent achievement was to play a key role in the imaging of the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy!

Carpool from CBE or drive yourself
People can gather in the Beth Elohim parking lot for car pools before 1:00 PM or head directly to Haystack at 99 Millstone Road, Westford. See HERE for the map and directions. The map shows you where the Haystack is located in the complex. Once at the Haystack parking lot, enter via the main entrance and check in with the receptionist.
Visit Itinerary
The afternoon will begin with a 1:30 PM talk by a leading Haystack scientist about current research with time for questions and answers. Then we’ll put on hard hats and head into the 37-meter radio telescope’s radomes for a tour, followed by a visit to the correlator/supercomputer. Afterwards, closer to 3 or 3:30 PM, those who wish can gather at Westford’s Burton’s Grill & Bar to discuss the day’s experiences.
