Confronting the History of Housing Discrimination – Learning from Our Past and Taking Action Now

Sponsored by Na’aseh and its Racial Justice Group

This two session, interactive workshop has been developed by JALSA in consultation with Bob Van Meter, adjunct professor at Boston College Carroll School of Management. In it we will seek to understand racial disparities in housing in Massachusetts and the history that created them.  We will look at the role that zoning reform and affordable housing can have in addressing racial disparity. We will also learn more about community organizing, the Boston Jewish community’s housing history, and the powerful voice our Jewish values provide us when working on these issues.

JALSA, the Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action, is devoted to engaging the community in promoting civil rights, protecting civil liberties and achieving social, economic, environmental, and racial justice.

Bob Van Meter is Adjunct Faculty at Boston College Carroll School of Management, long-time affordable housing advocate, and Acton resident.
