Chanukah Celebration 5765/2004

A Very Bright Night at Congregation Beth Elohim

“What is the darkest night of the year?”, Rabbi Lewis Mintz asked the over 160 children and adults gathered around nearly 75 Menorahs waiting to be lit. “Coming close to the solstice, it is not only the time of the longest nights, but during these last nights of Chanukah there is a new moon - so there is even less light in the sky than other weeks. So during these final nights of the Chanukah holiday, we continue to add even more lights to our menorah and fill that darkness with ever increasing light”.

Congregation Beth Elohim held its annual Community Chanukah Celebration and Menorah Lighting this past Sunday; filling their synagogue with friends, music and light. A festive meal., crafts, skits, Israeli dancing, and a special Chanukah performance by musicians Howard Worona and the Beth Elohim choir made for a very warm and bright winter's night.

Former Swiss Ambassador and VT Governor Kunin Speaks in Acton

Former Swiss Ambassador and

VT Governor Madeleine M. Kunin On Sunday, February 6th, 2005 the Brotherhood of Congregation Beth Elohim welcomed Former Swiss Ambassador and VT Governor Madeleine M. Kunin as keynote speaker at their monthly breakfast. Ms. Kunin, who was born in Switzerland and emigrated to the US with her family in 1940, at the age of seven, spoke to the packed audience about her experience as Swiss Ambassador from 1996-1999. Ms. Kunin talked about her quest for dignity and justice for the dwindling numbers of Holocaust survivors. During her ambassadorship, she was an active participant
in the movement and an observer of the Swiss parliamentary debate relating to the return of family money, hidden from the oppressive German regime, in Swiss bank accounts. Ms. Kunin also spoke fondly of her thoughts regarding the continuing sense of justice of the American people. She continues to preach diligence and encouraged all attendees to be active and engaged citizens

Temple Beth Elohim Construction Photos

There are over 1,000 photos of the building construction - or should I say expansion - that took place in 2001 and 2002. They're organized by date and display small thumbnails on each page which can be enlarged. Thanks go to Charlie N. and Jeff M. for taking and compiling these photos. There is a very entertaining video of Marty somewhere. If it can be digitized I'll put it here!
