A Sacred Journey CBE Choir Annual Music Shabbat Dedicated to Rabbi Mintz Friday, May 19 • 7:30 pm
The Beth Elohim Choir, along with Rabbi Mintz and Cantor Spierer, presents our annual music Shabbat. Each year the choir prepares a service filled with beautiful and wide-ranging settings of the various parts of the Friday evening liturgy. This year’s service, dedicated to Rabbi Mintz, draws from four decades of CBE choir programs, spanning 5 centuries of Jewish music. Since the choir’s humble beginnings, the Rabbi has supported and encouraged us, adapted to the numerous varieties of music we sought to perform, and reveled in our successes. Although it was hard to choose from the many beloved pieces in our repertoire, together with Rabbi Mintz, we have put together a program of some of our all-time favorites.
We are particularly excited to be singing the three pieces that we commissioned between 2001 and 2008: Mizmor Shir Chanukat Habayit by Charles Osborne (for the dedication of our current building); L’chu N’ran’nah by Robert Applebaum (with a part for the congregation — see the link at right!), and Elohai N’shama by Robert Solomon (in honor of Lewis and Naomi’s 30 years of service with CBE).
We look forward to seeing everyone at this always popular annual choir event!
