Hold the Dates - Events include:
- On Friday evening, February 10th, at 7:30 PM, David will give a D’var Torah during Kabbalat Shabbat Service. “Engaging Nature through Prayer: A Post TuBshvat Drash”
- Our scholar will lead an expanded Shabbat morning Torah Study on February 11th , “Fire on the Mountain: Parshat Yitro” , following an abbreviated Shacharit service at 10:00 AM Kiddush will follow.
- Sunday morning, February 12th at 9:00 AM, there will be a Joint Brotherhood/Sisterhood Breakfast featuring Dr. Bernat, giving a talk on “Civil Liberties in Stressful Times” , followed by Q/A.

Dr. David Bernat received his BA in philosophy from the Jewish Theological Seminary and his PhD in Biblical Studies from BrandeisUniversity. His scholarship focuses on ritual, and on violence in sacred text. He is the co-editor of Religion and Violence: The Biblical Heritage [w/ Jonathan Klawans, BU and Me’ah faculty member). Dr. Bernat is the author of Sign of the Covenant: Circumcision in the Priestly Tradition, the only full length scholarly work dealing with circumcision in the Hebrew Bible. Prof. Bernat is the Jewish Chaplain at Wellesley, Babson and Olin Colleges, as well as Visiting Professor of Judaic Studies at UMass Amherst. His forthcoming book is Sharpened Arrows: Violence in Rabbinic Discourse . He has been with the Me'ah program since 1997, and led Me’ah's Bible/Rabbinics summerIsrael tour.
